It's Tough Buying a House

They say buying a house is one of the most stressful experiences in life. I'm living it now. Driving around every weekend looking for houses, calling a realtor (who is a friend from a former job), calling a loan officer (who is a friend of my husband's), explaining how the house is to family, searching MLS listings, making phone calls, reading the inspector's report, filling out applications, searching for every piece of paper known to man for the loan....the list goes on. And anyone else who has had to buy a house can relate, I'm sure.

Sometimes I even wonder if it's all worth it. But, it is worth it. I hope.

I'm learning a lot. I'm learning how to be patient, how to handle stress, how to ask all the right questions and most importantly, how to communicate effectively with everyone involved. My husband has been so calm through this all. Thank goodness one of us is. He's my strength and knows how to alleviate my stress.

And...I get to spend 5 days at home which will be nice.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Cooking at its Finest

My culinary chef of a husband just made the most delicious dinner - as usual. Being that he can taste and create anything he tries, this was just one of the many culinary delights I am spoiled with on a daily basis (and the same goes for him). On the menu: Mussaman Chicken Curry (with potatoes, peanuts, pineapple chunks and fresh mint). I have to say, my taste buds are still a bit on fire - but the glass of Yellow Tail Merlot is calming my palette down....

And for dessert...I can't even begin to say how blessed I am. I have my own personal chef! He's making an Apple Blackberry Tart that he says is "super easy to make." Yeah right. All I care about making right now is my bowl of apple tart with Vanilla Ice Cream.

We usually create a menu for the week of the food we will eat. It seems to make life a little easier. So, tomorrow we are having a Green Chile Beef dish that has been in the crock pot since this afternoon. The ingredients: Hatch Green Chile, Beef, Hominy and Stewed Tomatoes (and eat with a fresh, hot flour tortilla and top with sharp cheddar - and voila! - the perfect fall dinner. And Tuesday night - Crab Cakes.

Since it's a short week our menu was a little smaller this week. And, well, it's Thanksgiving! This is the first Thanksgiving Brett and I won't be spending it together at his family's house. We will be spending it apart - but only because we want to save every penny right now until we get into our new house (fingers crossed). I will, however, be with my family - and get to spend it with my two nieces and my baby nephew. I can't wait.

I need to start working out again. I haven't been to the gym since I started my new job - 3 months ago. That's okay, though. I feel great, I'm happy, I love my job, I love my husband and my dog, Chico and our 3 cats (Mia, Salvador and Hippie) and I embrace the figure I have. As PJ Harvey sings, "look at these my child-bearing hips....look at these my ruby red, ruby lips."

So...I'm trying to see how this whole "blogspot" works. I guess it's somewhat like a diary...I like it. Now all I need to do is get a digital camera - I thought I wouldn't get connected to the "digital age" but I guess it's impossible. Especially when you see other blogs - and they have pictures accompanying their pages. It looks much nicer that way....I don't know - maybe sometime soon I will get into the digital camera phenomenon.

This is my very first blog so far...so I'm going to see how it comes out....Peace Out!
